Description
|
This Fairchild 24 is the F24 W-61A # 767, powered by a Warner Super Scarab R-500-7 7-cylinder radial engine with 8.2 liters of displacement and 165 hp. It was built in 1943. Called UC61A Forwarder in the USAAF (United States Army Air Forces), it was delivered to the RAF (Royal Air Force) as a transport and liaison aircraft under the loan-lease law, registered FZ827 and called Argus II.
This aircraft was assigned to the MAAF (Mediterranean Allied Air Forces) in February 1944 and served in North Africa as evidenced by the copy of the machine's transport voucher provided by the RAF Museum in London.
It returned to the USAAF on November 28, 1946. That same year, it was bought by the Aéro-Union flying club in Grenchen (Switzerland) and registered with OFAC (Federal Office for Civil Aviation) with the registration HB-EMI. He attended school until 1951, dropping a parachutist in the Freiburg Aviation Club from 1952 to 1953, then passed into the hands of private owners.
It will be brought up to RAF standard in 1991, and, finally, bought in early 2015 to be based in France.
